Latest: Which is Better: OMAD or Keto?

April 20, 2021 by Janey Danes Leave a Comment

OMAD and Keto are two of the most popular ways to lose weight or to achieve a healthy body.

One meal a day (OMAD) is an extreme form of intermittent fasting. Keto, on the other hand, focuses on eating more healthy fats.

But which one is better: OMAD or Keto?

In this post, let’s dive a little deeper into the differences between OMAD and keto. You’ll also find out if you can do OMAD without following a ketogenic diet.

Let’s get started.

OMAD vs Keto

It’s important to remember that you can do OMAD without keto and vice versa.

For many, OMAD isn’t a diet. Rather, it’s a lifestyle. Buddhists are following it to clear their minds so they can meditate well.

Many Hollywood celebrities and tech tycoons are eating one meal a day to assist them in their daily activities.

Ketogenic is more of a diet that involves eating high-fat and extremely low carb. Your carb intake with keto is reduced to 20 grams a day.

With that in mind, your body will rely on fats for energy, instead of glucose.

This sort of diet has been used in treating epilepsy. It’s also a promising method to treat some neurological disorders.

Now, the question is, which one is better? OMAD or Keto?

Is Fasting Better Than Keto?

which is better omad or keto combining them both

Well, it hinges on which practice is more appropriate to your lifestyle.

Some people love OMAD because they don’t have to think about preparing three meals a day. For them, it’s all about convenience. They can eat what they want, provided they’re within their recommended calorie intake.

That is, they don’t have to limit their carb, protein, and fat intake. However, you must follow these OMAD rules to ensure you achieve your weight loss goals.

But it still depends on what you’re trying to achieve.

If you wish to speed up your weight loss goal, then you may combine OMAD and keto. However, it may not always be sustainable.

Others have managed to combine them. But it can be difficult.

It’s especially true if you have a medical condition.

But if you do combine OMAD and keto, you can save a lot of time and money.

They also help improve your digestion and immunity. These methods may curb your cravings and hunger. Your skin may look better.

Others said that both methods helped in increasing their energy, mood, and cognitive function.

Achieve Ketosis

If your goal is to reach ketosis quicker, then combining OMAD and keto is the better option.

When your body is in a fasting state, it shifts its fuel source to fats from carbs.

During fasting, your insulin levels and glycogen stores may decrease allowing your body to start burning fat to give you energy.

Thus, if you struggle to reach ketosis while you’re on a ketogenic diet, it might be better to eat one meal a day to hasten the process.

Fat Loss

Both OMAD and keto can promote fat loss. However, if you combine these two, you’ll be helping your body in burning more fat than when you choose to either fast or do keto alone.

OMAD can help you drop excess body fat.

Is It Safe to Combine Keto and OMAD?

It’s likely safe to combine them both.

Then again, if you’re breastfeeding or pregnant, then you might want to avoid these two.

Furthermore, if you have diabetes or heart disease, you should talk to your doctor first before trying either of these methods.

Even though some people found it beneficial to combine these two, OMAD and keto diet may not work for everyone.

Every person is different. Some people can handle OMAD while others can’t.

You may find that OMAD is more difficult than a keto diet. Or you may overeat on the non-fasting hour. You may also experience irritability and fatigue.

While these methods may work wonders for other people, they may not work for you.

What you can do is to experiment and find out if OMAD is better than keto and vice versa.

Remember that both methods have their own health benefits. But it doesn’t always mean that you can gather them all.

If your goal of practicing either OMAD or keto is to lose weight, then you might want to start intermittent fasting first.

Start with a shorter fast, like 12 hours a day. Once your body has adapted to it, you can prolong it to 14, then 16 hours.

After doing a 16-hour fast every day for a few weeks, you might want to try doing eating one meal a day.

Then, start to incorporate the keto diet. In this diet, you’re focusing on healthy fats that will help you feel full for a lot longer.

Thus, you won’t crave food for 23 hours.

Then again, it still depends on your lifestyle and how your body adjusts to it.

Always remember that you don’t have to combine them both.

Conclusion

Which is better OMAD or keto? It depends. OMAD is better for some people while others prefer a ketogenic diet (because they love to eat bacon).
