Oh, the smell of coffee. The role of this beverage has been debated for a very long time now. Will it or will it not help in weight loss? Depending on how you consume it, this drink can give you positive and/or negative effects on your health and, yes, weight.

If you’re like me who make a habit of drinking it every day, then it’d be harder for you to give up this drink just to achieve your ideal weight.

Does Coffee Really Help With Weight Loss

According to nutritionists and fitness experts, the caffeine in this drink may help boost weight loss goal while it may prevent weight gain. Unfortunately, there’s no scientific evidence that increasing coffee consumption may result in permanent weight loss.

Although it isn’t definitive as to the connection of this drink to weight, there are several theories available on how it could affect weight.

    1. Suppressing appetite

Caffeine, per se, is useful in reducing your appetite. However, there’s no evidence that can show how it’s effective in achieving your weight loss goal.

    2. Burning calories

Yes, caffeine has thermogenesis properties, which are useful in generating heat and energy. Then again, experts are doubtful if it’s enough to produce significant weight loss.

How To Consume Coffee While Losing Weight?

    1. Drink in moderation

Excessive consumption can cause insomnia, which can lead to overeating because of lack of sleep. One to two cups of coffee without sugar each day is already enough to boost your metabolism and keep you awake.

    2. Avoid the cream and sugar

If you don’t want to gain weight while drinking this drink, then you mustn’t add cream or sugar to it. Instead, go with black or sugar-free coffee so you won’t be adding calories to your drink.

    3. Try drinking it after meal

It reduces cravings. As previously mentioned, it may suppress appetite. By drinking coffee after meal, you’re less likely to reach out to dessert or unhealthy snacks after meal.

    4. Take it an hour before workout

Why? Caffeine increases your energy and alertness. With that in mind, you’ll be able to take on more focused workout. But don’t drink it after an exercise. This is because the acid build-up from exercise may cause an upset stomach. It’ll surely lead to gas, bloating and diarrhea.

    5. Drink it with water

Because caffeine is known for its diuretic effects, you should drink water after taking your cup of coffee. Keep in mind that hydration may lead to weight gain. By staying hydrated, your stomach is always full; thereby, avoiding unhealthy snacking.

    What To Avoid

Although this drink has benefits when it comes to your weight loss goal, you should avoid drinking specialty coffees. What are they? These are your café latte, espresso, cold coffee, etc. If you want this drink to help you with such goal, you must opt for black coffee.

    Conclusion

As always, the key here is moderation. Although coffee is generally safe, excessive consumption may lead to negative side effects such as nervousness, nausea, and insomnia. These effects may cause you to overeat leading to weight gain.
