Is there a difference between yoga and Pilates? Which one should you pick?

“I do yoga and Pilates and the room is full of hotties.”

Well, which exercise should you pick: Yoga or Pilates?

You may ask, “Is there a difference? Aren’t these two the same?”

For some people who haven’t tried these two exercises, yet, would surely say that they’re the same.

But for people, like me, who have performed some of its series of exercises would tell you that they’re not.

Of course, these two focus on three things: stamina, strength and slimming down.

So, what’s the difference between true yoga and core Pilates?

Yoga is an older practice that began more than 5,000 years ago. Over the centuries, it has evolved allowing it to have different types of yoga.

Pilates, on the other hand, is a younger practice that started in the mid-20th century by Joseph Pilates. What makes it popular is the involvement of dance.

    The basics of yoga

The goal of yoga is to keep you strong and supple through those strengthening and stretching movements. The postures involve conditioning the body while the breathing exercises aimed to calm the mind.

With this exercise, you’ll learn to stay in control of your breathing so you’ll remain calm while holding on to those challenging postures.

Plus, you’ll learn how to meditate in a yoga class.

When you apply the principles of yoga to your lifestyle, you’ll achieve inner and outer balance as you’ll have overall awareness of your body.

    Now, let’s go to Pilates.

    Core Pilates

The creator started this exercise to rehabilitate soldiers, who were injured after the World War I. The exercises involved are aimed towards gaining core and strengthening of spine. You may opt to use machine to gain strength.
