    Veganism May Help You Lose Weight as Revealed by a Study

    In a meta-analysis conducted and published in July this year, researchers revealed that those who followed a no-meat diet have lost more weight than those who are eating the average American diet, i.e. with meat and other stuff.

    Veganism and Type 2 Diabetes

    It was shown in the previous study that veganism could somehow decrease the risk of developing type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular diseases through a vegan diet.

    However, there were only a few studies that showed veganism could help people lose weight.

    This prompted researchers who were connected with Harvard University’s T.H. Chan School of Public Health to conduct and publish clinical trials that would look at the effects of veganism on people who wish to lose weight.

    Lacto-Ovo Diet and Pure Vegan

    In said study, one group of people followed a lacto-ovo diet, which is a type of veganism that allows eating of eggs and consuming of milk.

    Another group was put into a purely vegan diet. That is, no animal products.

    The study showed that those in the first group have lost around 4.4 pounds while the second group dropped around 5.5 pounds.

    DASH Diet

    In several studies and recent diet rankings, DASH diet came on top of the list. Another diet that’s friendly to the heart is Ornish diet, which follows limit consumption of refined carbs and fat.

    Veganism and Other Diets

    The researchers of the study couldn’t say whether or not a vegan diet is better than low-fat or low-carb diet when it comes to losing weight.

    But they can conclude that a vegan diet can present several benefits to any type of weight loss goals. This is especially true if you want to lose weight fast.

    One of the reasons vegan diet could help you lose weight is the fact that you’ll be eating a large number of fruits and vegetables. They’re plant-based foods with fewer calories but with more nutrients. They’re also rich in fiber, which is a contributing factor in lowering body weight.

    Final Thoughts

    Veganism may not always be ideal for anyone who wishes to lose weight. It may be beneficial for you but you should continue following it to control your weight in the long run.

    And researchers warned that eating too many added sugar could still cause obesity and poor health.
