Obesity Help – Keys to Prevent It From Happening
Heart disease and diabetes are not the only diseases associated with obesity. Cancer, Alzheimer’s disease and others you may not have thought are linked to this distressing condition.
You may think that you have done your best to keep the extra weight off. But you may be doing it wrong. When it comes to finding help for your obesity dilemma, you must not rely on the short-term results of dieting. The main trick is to pair well-balanced diet with exercise.
Have you tried exercising?
The key to weight loss is exercise. It is more than just eliminating kilojoules but it is also keeping it off. You must aim to have at least 30 minutes of exercise each day, even though any amount already helps. According to the Journal of the American Medical Association, it does not matter how long your workout is. You will still lose weight.
But, just because you have been exercising an hour each day, it does not mean you can raid your fridge as your reward. If you do, then you are just cancelling the weight loss you have achieved, which is not the right way to help your obesity problem.
Don’t skip breakfast
People who eat their breakfast each day are more likely to maintain their ideal weight or drop more pounds compared to those who do not consume their morning meal. Skipping breakfast won’t help your obesity predicament.
But why is that?
If you don’t eat your meal in the morning, your body thinks that you are starving. As a result, it slows down your metabolism in order to preserve energy.
With the importance of this first morning meal, researchers advise eating a big one. Having a big breakfast offers a better method in controlling your appetite, as well as cravings. In that way, you can easily keep your weight off.
If you’re in a hurry, you can just make a protein shake before heading out. Drink it while going somewhere.
Eat less but move more
Stock up on foods with low kilojoules to help you get rid of your obesity problems. Then, exercise more. To monitor the number of pounds or kilos you have lost, it would be ideal to weigh yourself on a regular basis.
Consume non-starchy veggies
Most veggies can easily fill your stomach with only few kilojoules. Then, add a quarter of complex carbs to your plate, like brown rice. Don’t forget lean protein, like chicken or fish.
Become a member of a weight-loss support group
It truly helps to have a support in your hand. Consider Weight Watchers. Or a nutrition club. According to several studies, people who signed up for support groups and went to meetings in person are more likely to maintain their weight loss than those who only received support through email or newsletter.
In our nutrition club, we keep an eye on the progress of our members. They also have the chance to meet up other members who are also trying to find help with their obesity problems. They share tips on how to maintain their ideal weight and they support one another to further achieve their weight loss goal.
Talk to a dietitian
Having a registered dietitian by your side can help you design a tailor-made diet plan. He/she can also draw a customized exercise program that can help you stay on track. Meeting a dietitian once a week is proven to enhance weight loss goal compared to individuals who don’t see an expert.
Is there a magic pill to treat obesity?
Unfortunately, scientists are still following a line of investigation to find that miracle diet pill that surely treats obesity.
But there’s a medicine that you can try to regulate your mood and appetite. This drug is known as sibutramine. It works the same way as anti-depressant. It increases serotonin and norepinephrine in your brain to help you feel full sooner. As a result, you’ll eat less. If you take it, you must consume a healthy diet and follow a regular exercise routine. Sibutramine is known to interact with other synthetic drugs and may increase risk of stroke.
