The company includes functional mushrooms in the product, such as reishi, cordyceps, chaga and lion’s mane.
1.) Chaga Mushroom
Chaga is said to be the king of mushrooms. It has been used for centuries in Asia and Siberia as herbal medicine to improve immunity. It also improves overall health.
It is high in antioxidants. It can treat diabetes, heart disease, and cancer.
Unfortunately, it comes without some risks. Since it can affect your blood sugar level, it could pose risk if you are diabetic or using insulin.
Furthermore, it has a protein that prevents blood clotting. Do not take it if you are preparing for surgery.
Because it boosts immunity, it may cause the immune system to be more active, which can be risky for patients with autoimmune disease.
It is a genus of parasitic fungi. When these fungi attack the host, they replace the host’s tissue and grow long stems outside the host’s body.
The remains of the host are collected and dried to be used as traditional Chinese medicine. They are said to treat kidney disease, sickness, and fatigue, as well as low sex drive.
This mushroom can boost exercise performance because it increases the body’s production of ATP. In that case, it boosts how your body utilizes oxygen during exercise.
How safe it is is not known yet.
3.) Lion’s Mane
It is a type of mushroom with a large, white appearance. When it grows, it looks like a lion’s mane, ergo, the name.

When Mushroom Coffee Started?
It began in the 1940s when coffee rations were low because of WWII. The Finns started to brew the Chaga mushroom as a replacement.
The company, Four Sigmatic, started in 2012. It is the original modern brand that sells mushroom coffee. Because of its effects, other brands started to introduce it.
Four Sigmatic does not just focus on mushroom coffee. Rather, it offers a variety of blended products, like lemonade and ground coffee.
How Much Caffeine is in Mushroom Coffee?
Unfortunately, it only contains around 50 mg of caffeine. That’s why it requires three tablespoons per cup. When you follow the recommended dosage, the effect is not different from caffeinated beverages.
The caffeine content can still give you an energy boost but it will not disrupt your sleep cycles.
For an average adult, the amount of coffee you can take is up to 400 mg. When you drink around 500 mg in one day, you may experience insomnia and upset stomach.
With Four Sigmatic mushroom coffee, you will be drinking less coffee while getting its many health benefits.
As regards to the energy boost, not all drinkers noticed a huge difference when they took regular coffee. Some of them did not notice an increase in their mental focus, sleep habits and energy level.
Other Four Sigmatic reviews are saying that they have not experienced life-changing results.
Mushroom coffee is also expensive. It can go around $21.50 per ounce.
Four Sigmatic mushroom coffee may offer health benefits. But just like any other coffee brand, the effects will depend on the person who is taking it.
Since it is low in calories, it may be ideal if you are following intermittent fasting. For me, I stick with my cafe latte (organic Luwak coffee and cow’s milk).
