Do you have dry, red, inflamed skin around your eyes? It can be a symptom of eczema. However, before you even look for eczema treatment around eyes, you must first confirm that it is, indeed, eczema. To do that, you must consult your doctor.
On the other hand, if you know a naturopath in your area, then you must consider consulting with that specialist. It is better to visit a naturopath than going to a dermatologist.
The reason for this is that naturopathy focuses on preventing disease. It treats the underlying cause and utilizes treatment that works with the natural healing mechanism of your body.
Possible Eczema Treatment Around Eyes
Eczema around the eyes would get worse if you rub the irritated area. To deal with the patches, you should maintain your skin’s moisture. Ensure that it is well-moisturized.
In that case, you must avoid frequently washing your face or having long showers. You should protect your skin around the eyes using heavy-duty cream. Avoid harsh soaps and other triggers. Do not scratch the patches.
1.) Avoid Bathing Each Day
When you have eczema, your skin is dry because it no longer has enough oil to moisturize your skin. Your skin’s ability to retain moisture has been affected. Too much washing can cause dry skin. It also makes eczema worse.
That said, you must not bathe every day if you do not need to. Excessive bathing will only wash away the oils in your body that keeps the skin moist. And if you need to take a shower, you must do it in under 10 minutes.
Apply moisturizer to protect your skin against irritants. You may use cooking margarine as a moisturizer to guard your skin.
2.) Use Natural Supplements as a Potential Eczema Treatment Around Eyes
There are plenty of supplements that you can try to help reduce inflammation. One of them is omega-3. If you can eat foods high in these fatty acids, then that would be better. Foods rich in omega-3 will include avocados, trout, salmon, walnuts, and tuna.
You may also use flaxseed oil. It is rich in omega-3 as well. To use it, take one tablespoon of it each day. Do not heat it as the high temperature will remove its beneficial properties.
Thus, instead of cooking it, make sure to just add it to your salad dressing. You may also mix it with yogurt or you can blend it into your food.
Evening primrose oil is also great at relieving itchy skin. This oil can supply gamma-linolenic acid (GLA) to your body. People with this skin condition may lack this essential fatty acid. You may purchase evening primrose oil supplements and take 1000 mg three times a day for four months.
To counteract dry skin, make sure to take vitamin E. Or you may eat vitamin E sources, like nuts and seeds, as well as vegetable oils. If you are taking a blood-thinning drug, you must not take vitamin E supplements.
Apart from vitamin E, you must also up your vitamin A intake. You should take at least 600 mcg (for women) or 700 mcg (for men). Do not use it in high diseases as it can be toxic.
If you do not want to take a vitamin A supplement, make sure to eat foods high in this vitamin. The food sources for this vitamin would include fish oil, green leafy vegetables, liver, margarine, and yellow fruits, among others.
3.) Opt for Gotu Kola
This herb can also ease itchy skin. You must use it externally, though. But you cannot apply it directly without first making an ointment. If you know a medical herbalist to make it for you, then that would be better.
You can also use gotu tea as a potential eczema treatment around eyes. Make a cup of tea out of this herb and soak a cloth in it. Use the soaked cloth as a compress.
To make gotu tea, simply steep up to two teaspoons of dried gout herb in a cup of hot water for 10 minutes.
You may also use chamomile for eczema natural treatment as an alternative if you cannot find gotu kola.
4.) Apply Aloe Vera Gel
It is from the leaves of the aloe plant. It has been used for thousands of years to treat different types of skin conditions. The gel is known to have antimicrobial, antibacterial and wound-healing abilities.
The effects can stop skin infections that can occur when you have cracked, dry skin. The wound-healing ability of aloe vera can soothe broken skin. It also promotes proper healing.
The good thing is that you can easily buy an aloe vera in an online shop and use it as eczema treatment around eyes. Unfortunately, we no longer sell aloe vera gel at Vim Chi because Herbalife has stopped producing it. However, you can find several aloe vera gel products in various online shops. Just make sure that you are purchasing authentic aloe vera.
When you purchase aloe gel products, opt for the one with few ingredients. Do not choose a product with alcohol, colors, fragrances, and preservatives. They can only aggravate your skin. Keep in mind ash alcohol can make your eczema worse.
And before you apply it around your eyes, make sure to test your skin first. Apply a small amount of the gel. If you do not feel any symptoms, then it might be safe for you.
5.) Get Help from Apple Cider Vinegar
The National Eczema Association (NEA) even recommends it. Then again, the organization recommends it with caution because the acid in this vinegar may damage your soft tissue.
Studies that confirm ACV in reducing the symptoms are not yet available. But ACV is known to balance your skin’s acidity level. Keep in mind that vinegar is highly acidic. People with this type of skin condition have less acidic skin, thereby, weakening their skin’s defenses.
To use ACV in balancing your skin’s acidity level, make sure to apply diluted ACV to your skin. This type of vinegar may cause burning if you do not dilute it.
These types of Eczema treatment around eyes are proven to be effective. However, you must also change your diet and lifestyle. Keep in mind that your skin condition may be the result of what you are eating. As you start eating healthy food that is good for your skin, then, perhaps, your eczema will disappear.
