In a study, consuming certain nuts could improve male’s fertility. The researchers think that eating nuts on a regular basis could improve sperm’s quality significantly. It could also enhance the reproductive cells function.
Scientists who performed the study were trying to find the reason sperm counts have halved in the last 40 years. The decrease in counts is said to be linked to numerous factors, like smoking, pollution, and an unhealthy diet.
The researchers recruited healthy young men who were 18 to 35 years old. It was a randomized trial where they asked these men to eat 60 grams a day of walnuts, almonds or hazelnuts.
The scientists concluded that nuts, as a healthy snack, could improve sperm movement by up to 60% and boost survival by four percent. All of these are said to be linked to male fertility.
The benefits of nuts to male fertility could be attributed to their abundance of omega-3 fatty acids, folate, and antioxidants.
This problem affects approximately 11 percent of women while nine percent in men. In the UK, one in seven couples is having issues with conceiving.
The findings encourage hopeful fathers to eat nuts regularly. However, the researchers emphasized that the study involved healthy men who were consuming a western diet. That said, the result would not necessarily apply to all men.
You need to consider semen quality and the possibility of having their partner pregnant. For their diet, it’s best that men must eat a balanced diet and not just focus on one group of foods. It is also ideal that they engage in a regular physical activity. And of course, don’t smoke and drink alcohol.
