bacon nutrition facts: it is high in fats

Health experts did not want you to eat bacon and other processed meat. When you study the bacon nutrition facts, you will find that this meat contains no fiber but with 12 grams of fat and 161 calories (for 3 slices).

It is not high in calories. True. But its nutrition facts state that they contain a lot of unhealthy saturated fat and sodium.

Bacon Nutrition Facts: High in Sodium and Fats

Bacon is consumed by people who follow a ketogenic diet. It is high in fat but low in carbs. However, many health experts are banning it from their patients’ plates.

But it might change after a new review showed that there is no valid reason to reduce the intake of red or processed meat, like bacon.

Several health bodies indeed advised limiting red meat intake because it contains a high amount of saturated fat. This type of fat increases cholesterol levels and it might cause heart attacks.

In recent studies, researchers found a link between eating red and processed meat and cancer.

However, the latest review contradicts previous studies. The authors have a different conclusion. They looked at the effects of eating red or processed meat. And they stated that it has small adverse effects on heart disease, cancer, and deaths.

They also found that there was little to no health benefit for individuals who reduce their meat intake. The authors concluded that individuals should continue to consume red and processed meat unless they think that they should change their diet.

But the new review is not an indication that we should eat more red meat. The review did not state that we should be eating twice as much meat. Eating red meat three times a week might not cause a problem though.

However, consuming a high-fat low-carb diet can be a good thing if you wish to lose weight. Click the link to learn about the New Zealand study about high-fat, low carb diet.

How to Cook Bacon in a Healthy Way

Bacon contains a high amount of protein, which makes you fuller for longer. With the latest health review about bacon and other processed meat, you sure would love to cook bacon in the morning.

Though you have permission to consume it for breakfast, you need to know how to cook it healthily.

    Opt for the Right Cut

You might think that bacon is bacon. But not all bacon in the market is created equal. Experts recommend avoiding middle bacon. Instead, opt for the leanest cut. Choose a cut with little visible fat. Then, make sure to choose thinner slices and not the thick-cut pieces.

    Cook Bacon in the Oven

In any food that you cook, it is best to utilize techniques that will drain any excess fat. Thus, cooking bacon in the oven can be a great option. Do not add oil. Cooking it over a roasting rack can remove some of the fats during the process.

When you cook bacon in the oven, one of the things you should decide is the type of bacon to cook. You can choose from uncured, cured, applewood, etc. If you are following a ketogenic diet, it is ideal to stick with uncured bacon. Click the link to know the science behind the keto diet.

However, experts recommend going for thinner bacon because it will have crisper results.

Use natural bacon with regular thickness. It gives you the right balance of crisp edges and chewy center.

As mentioned earlier, you can cook bacon in the oven directly on the baking sheet or with the use of a cooling rack.

When you choose to bake it in a sheet pan, the result will be chewy and hearty. The cooling rack method, however, will give you crisper edges while lighter in texture. Unfortunately, it takes time to cook it.

How to Cook Bacon in the Oven with a Baking Sheet Pan

    • After choosing the right cut of bacon, place the bacon pieces evenly in the baking sheet pan with foil. Avoid overlapping the pieces. In that way, the meat will be cooked uniformly.
    • Bake the pieces at 375 degrees Fahrenheit for 15 minutes.
    • Flip them over and allow them to cook until they are golden in color.
    • Pay close attention to the last few minutes of roasting it to avoid burning the bacon pieces.
    • Remove the bacon from the oven and drain the excess grease.

How to Cook Bacon in the Oven on a Cooling Rack

    • Again, choose the right cut of bacon
    • Use the right baking sheet pan
    • Line the pan with foil
    • Cover up all the sides
    • Use the right cooling rack. Do not use non-stick coating because this type of rack will only break down while in the hot oven.
    • Arrange the pieces on top of the rack.
    • Bake it at 375 degrees Fahrenheit for 15 minutes before flipping them over.
    • Cook them until the pieces are fully cooked with golden brown color.
    • Transfer bacon to a plate lined with a paper towel

Pair Bacon with Fruits and Veggies

    bacon vegetables

However, if you are on a keto diet, fruits might not be ideal. It is especially true if the fruits you are trying to eat contain a lot of sugar, which is a no-no in this kind of diet.

And yes, you should up your veggie intake. You must focus on cauliflower, cucumbers, mushrooms, and zucchini. They are high in fibers.

    Roast the Cauliflower

Roasting vegetables, like cauliflower, is something that would make veggies more scrumptious.

Or you may add bacon to your vegetable salad that also includes avocado. The creaminess in avocado will make your vegetable salad noteworthy.

You may also try roasted brussels sprouts. Kids would start liking brussels sprouts if they are paired with bacon.

Another way to cook bacon with vegetables is to wrap asparagus with bacon. But do not add sugar, though, especially if you are following a keto diet.

The combination of bacon, egg, and kale is also a savory breakfast. It is a breakfast staple, that is. By adding cooked kale, you will have nutritious bacon.

Or you can try grilling chicken with bacon or wrap shrimps with bacon. But do not coat bacon with sugar.

Learning about bacon nutrition facts might disappoint you because of the fat content. But if you eat it in moderation, then there is no need to panic. Plus, if you are on a keto diet, bacon becomes a staple. Just do not add sugar or any carbs in it.
