Air pollution contributed to deaths in the US, a study showed. Exposure to fine particulate matter that could be inhaled from cars and other sources was linked to over 30,000 deaths in the US between 1999 and 2015.
Although these effects were seen around the US, they are more seen in counties with high poverty rates. Shorter life expectancy was also greater in counties with a high proportion of black residents.
In other words, air pollution contributes to the loss of longevity in the US, particularly in poorer counties. The researchers of the study suggested to lower air pollution to reduce health inequalities.
The fine particulate matter is small enough that it can easily reach the bloodstream and cause harm to the lungs and heart. This matter can also cause hazy air and damage the environment.
Scientists knew for many years now that air pollution can harm humans. The study also found that the two pollutants are more likely to develop heart diseases. These diseases were thought to be caused by high cholesterol and high blood pressure.

The researchers conducted the study in China. They found that exposure to these pollutants for a long time was associated with coronary artery calcium. Particulate matter and nitrogen dioxide are found in the air from natural and man-made causes.
